WHAT IS BIS?

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is India’s National Standards Body, under the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution.

A BIS Hallmark includes:

• BIS Logo – Indicates hallmarking through the BIS system.
• Purity / Fineness Grade – Identifies the fineness of the precious metal, such as 995 Gold or 990 Silver.
• HUID – A unique six-character alphanumeric Hallmark Unique Identification code that enables traceability of the hallmarked item.
